GPEI and Depalindo Urge Government to Regulate STS Activities in Muara Jawa to Protect State Revenue

JAKARTA, Harnas.id – The Indonesian Exporters Association (GPEI) and the Indonesian Sea Transportation Users Council (Depalindo) have urged the government to regulate ship-to-ship (STS) transshipment of export cargo in Muara Jawa, Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

Depalindo Chairman and GPEI Secretary General Toto Dirgantoro said that STS activities in Muara Jawa are not yet subject to customs duties, and this has the potential to cause losses to state revenue from royalties because the volume of STS cargo is difficult to verify.

Toto said that his party had witnessed STS activities in Muara Berau firsthand in mid-December 2023. Although Muara Berau has been designated as a customs area, Muara Jawa does not yet have the same status.

Toto questioned why Muara Jawa can conduct STS activities for coal cargo exports even though it has not been designated as a customs area.

Depalindo and GPEI are concerned that practices outside the customs area could reduce state revenue because the verification facilities are not as comprehensive as those in Muara Berau.

They urged the Ministry of Finance not to disregard its own regulations and emphasized the need to regulate STS activities in Muara Jawa.

Toto said that STS activities outside customs areas such as this have the potential to cause losses to the state due to the loss of royalties, amounting to billions of rupiah per month.

GPEI and Depalindo hope that the government will immediately regulate these activities to avoid potential greater losses.
