Head of GPEI South Sulawesi Arief Pabbetingi Reveals Logistics as the Biggest Challenge for Gorontalo Exports
GORONTALO - The export potential of Gorontalo's leading commodities is considered abundant, but is hampered by one major challenge. The chairman of the South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi Regional Representative Council of the Indonesian Exporters Association (GPEI), Arief Pabbetingi, revealed that logistics access is the biggest obstacle for entrepreneurs in the region.
He made this statement while speaking at a business meeting between entrepreneurs from Gorontalo and South Sulawesi at the Aston Hotel in Gorontalo on September 16-17, 2025.
According to Arief, although many local products such as cocoa and coconut are ready for export, entrepreneurs find it difficult to ship them outside the region efficiently.
“I see the biggest factor as being logistics,” said Arief on Friday (9/19/2025).
He explained that limited access points, both by sea and air, are a serious barrier to the growth of export volume from Gorontalo.
“Logistically, access points, both by sea and air, are very limited,” he said.
In addition to logistical issues, Arief also highlighted the importance of support from other sectors, particularly a stable and consistent payment system to facilitate international transactions.
“There is a great hope for a payment system that is truly consistent,” he concluded.
